The National was officially recognised as Australia’s Best Festival Event in 2009 by winning the Qantas Australian Tourism Award.
The National Folk Festival lights up Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC) every Easter when the city is frocked up in its golden autumn best. Over 55,000 people from the Canberra community, interstate and abroad attend Australia’s longest running folk festival event (established in 1967).
The ‘National’ is so much more than a traditional folk festival. It is a community-orientated, family-friendly event with something colourful, cultural and delicious to suit every taste in food, music, dance, circus, vaudeville, spoken word, handmade craft, work-shopping and community arts projects. The National draws together people from all over Australia and the world - they come to share in the songs, dances, tunes and verse that have flowed through the ages from many communities into Australian folk culture.
The Majestic Fringe Festival, presented by the ACT Government is now a highlight for Youth - with an exciting program and a wonderful, safe environment for young people to hang out, eat out, meet friends, be entertained - or entertain others by joining in!
The National has two sit-down wine bar/restaurants, five (5) bars and over thirty (30) food stalls, where you can tantalise your taste buds with a smorgasbord of delicacies from all four corners of the earth - whilst you sit back, relax and enjoy the best in acoustic music and vibrant dance!
The National also offers a unique opportunity to browse amongst the 60 craft stalls to find something unique as a special gift - or treat for yourself.
For five days, EPIC becomes a magical place, filled with delectable aromas, colour, sounds, dancing, singing and playing.
