Sunset Over Cardboard Mountains

Date:
Fri, 14 May 2010 to Fri, 21 May 2010
Presenter:
Next Wave
Description:
Strap yourself into a customised cardboard box, close your eyes, open your ears and hold on!

Harnessing the evocative power of hand-made props, shadow play, lo-fi special effects and a spellbinding live musical score performed by A Wandering Mind, Sunset over Cardboard Mountains will take you on an immersive joyride to a world where childhood fears meet flights of fancy, and risk lurks at every turn.

For six nights only, twelve lucky passengers will be taken on a fluid and disorienting journey: whisked across fantastical plains, plunged into outlandish soundscapes, and pushed to the very edge of your imagination. Taking place under the cover of a giant patchwork quilt, this experiential art adventure is sure to make you feel wide-eyed and small again.

And yes, you really do get to sit in a cardboard box.

Sunset Over Cardboard Mountains marks the first collaboration between composer Ed Gould and visual artists Lisa Stewart and Rachel Feery, with dramaturgy by Margaret Cameron. This project has been developed with the support of Aphids.

Limited capacity, Bookings Essential.

PLEASE NOTE: Audience members are to be individually seated in customised cardboard boxes for 30 minutes of the show. The average box size is 65cm wide x 120cm long x 60cm high, with a few slightly smaller or bigger box. Each box is fitted with cushions for maximum comfort. We will endevour to allocate boxes to match audience members' sizes as best as possible, but this is subject to availability. The show involves flashing lights, periods of small enclosed spaces, darkness, video simulated motion effects, smoke and dry ice. The show is not recommended for people who suffer from epilepsy or claustrophobia. Children under 6 may share a box with a parent/guardian free of charge, however the show includes some sequences that young children may find scary. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to supervise the child throughout the performance.
